“Moon Car” donated to Ireland’s National Museum

News today that the “Moon Car” – the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost which carried the attackers of the Cobh Pier Head shooting in 1924 – has been donated by its owner Pat McSweeney to the National Museum at Dublin’s Collins Barracks.

The car, which is featured in John Jefferies book on the shooting, was handed over at the museum this morning.  The handover has been welcomed by Mr. Jefferies as an important and generous gesture on behalf of the owner but he would have preferred if the vehicle were to be put in display in County Cork with which it is most associated. Nevertheless it is good that it will remain in Ireland at any rate”.
